Founder/Servant Leader/Coach/Grandfather/husband
I was born into a family where leadership meant something deeper than success in any single domain. My father, an Emmy Award-winning scientist at Kodak, moved seamlessly between worlds—pioneering technical innovations in the lab while dedicating himself to community service. At every family dinner, he would end our prayers with "help us to keep mindful of those less fortunate," then bring those words to life—whether inviting underprivileged youth to build soap box derby cars in our garage, taking leadership roles in our church, or, as I witnessed later, giving his own coat to a homeless woman in New York City. Through him, I learned early that true impact comes when we apply ourselves fully across all dimensions of life.
This perspective shaped my own path from the start. At age five, I launched a neighborhood hot dog stand, discovering early the thrill of entrepreneurship. The following year, a neighborhood friend wanted to join in, and together we expanded the concept to include entertainment - creating my first lesson in experience design and relationship building. The entrepreneurial spirit deepened throughout my youth, as even a simple paper route became about more than just delivering papers—it became a first experience in building genuine connections with others and handling service challenges with care. These early lessons in connecting with people while delivering results would become foundational to my leadership approach.
My early vision of creating change led me to student government, where I served three consecutive terms as student body president. With a close friend, I created a county-wide leadership program uniting student leaders across schools—an initiative that initially drew me toward a career in politics. But my internship in Washington D.C. revealed a stark truth: while others focused on political maneuvering, I saw that real transformation happens through bringing people together and creating meaningful experiences—an insight that would shape my entire approach to leadership.
This insight guided my transition to business, where I built the first of three successful companies—a specialty cleaning services firm that grew to 300 people and $12 million in revenue without a formal sales team. Instead of traditional sales tactics, we grew through our reputation for solving complex problems while treating every stakeholder with dignity. Facility managers would recommend us to their peers, employees would bring us new opportunities, and clients would expand our services across their organizations. Even in a seemingly straightforward industry, we proved that integrating operational excellence with human-centered leadership creates extraordinary results.
During my 23-year journey with the Entrepreneurs' Organization, from local chapter leader to Global Board Chairman, I helped transform EO's approach to developing leaders. We created programs that addressed every dimension of entrepreneurial leadership—from strategic thinking to personal growth to community impact. The Leadership Academy and executive education programs I helped design have since developed thousands of leaders across 60+ countries.
Today, through Legacy of Significance—a leadership development organization I founded to transform how leaders think about and create lasting impact—I guide leaders in developing every aspect of their influence. Our work spans from executive decision-making to personal relationships, from team dynamics to community engagement. Through executive education programs, leadership development retreats, and even couples' retreats co-led with my Gottman-certified wife Jean Brault, we demonstrate how mastery in one domain of leadership amplifies and depends on growth in all others.
My work centers on helping leaders recognize and strengthen these vital connections. When they understand how business acumen enhances relationship wisdom, how personal growth drives professional success, and how community impact shapes organizational culture, they unlock their full potential as leaders.
I hold a firm belief that the future demands this kind of complete leadership—one that moves beyond compartmentalized excellence to embrace the full spectrum of human potential. This is the essence of my work: helping leaders create lasting significance, building legacies that matter not just in boardrooms, but in every sphere they influence.
