UFC Hall Of Famer Pat Miletich: Living Healthy But Feeling Drained? Ask This One Question.

UFC Hall Of Famer Pat Miletich: Living Healthy But Feeling Drained? Ask This One Question.

What if you are living healthy, doing the “right” things, and still feeling drained because you are solving the symptom instead of asking the question underneath it?

The host of The Deep Wealth Podcast and post-exit entrepreneur Jeffrey Feldberg speaks with Pat Miletich, UFC Hall of Famer about success and health in business and life.

The Symptom Founders Learn To Normalize

You know the pattern.

You eat better than you used to. You exercise. You protect your sleep. Yet there are days when the energy is not there.

Focus takes longer to arrive. Recovery feels slower. The meeting that should take 20 minutes drains an hour. By late afternoon, you are making decisions with a different brain than the one you had at 8 a.m.

Most founders do what founders are trained to do. They push.

That instinct built the business. It can also hide the problem.

Pat Miletich spent his life studying performance under pressure. Before becoming a UFC Hall of Famer, he was the kid who struggled to breathe and simply worked harder to keep up. Later, as a coach, he helped develop elite fighters and world champions. Today, his attention has expanded from the body to the environment that feeds it.

The thread running through all of it is cause.

The Cost Of Running On Empty

A founder rarely experiences low energy as “just” low energy.

It can show up as impatience with a capable employee. A rushed hiring decision. A negotiation you enter already depleted. A strategic issue you postpone because you do not have the bandwidth to think clearly.

Successful founders are very good at performing while depleted. That is why the cost can stay hidden.

When you normalize brain fog, poor recovery, or persistent fatigue, the business can begin absorbing the bill. Decision quality slips. Leadership tone changes. Growth gets harder because the company is relying on a founder with less usable capacity.

That is not merely a wellness problem.

That is a leadership and enterprise value problem.

Feeling drained can have many causes and deserves proper medical evaluation. This episode is not medical advice. What makes Pat’s perspective useful for a founder is the way he thinks about systems.

Why Pat Miletich Sees The Problem Differently

In fighting, weakness gets exposed.

A competitor does not care how hard you trained. If there is a weakness, pressure finds it.

Pat carried that lesson into coaching and business. He asks a question many founders avoid: What strategy would your competitor use to beat you?

That forces honesty. It makes you look at the weakness you would rather explain away.

Pat takes the same approach to soil and health. Instead of obsessing over the visible symptom, he asks what underlying condition allowed it to appear.

He puts it plainly: “What is the underlying problem that caused that to even be a possibility?”

That question is bigger than soil.

It is a founder question.

From The Cage To The Soil

Family elders in southern Iowa developed Parkinson’s and cancers earlier than expected. That pattern stayed with him. Over decades of research he reached a straightforward conclusion: humans are biological organisms living on a larger biological system. Soil health determines food quality. Food quality determines mineral status, immune function, and recovery capacity. Deplete the soil and the downstream effects appear in people.

Soil Saviors exists to reverse that depletion for gardeners, small orchard owners, and anyone who wants nutrient-dense food without synthetic inputs. The approach is not a war on industrial row-crop agriculture. It is a return of minerals and biology so plants stop signaling distress to insects and pathogens. Healthy plants do not broadcast the same invitations. Weeds that pull missing minerals from the atmosphere become unnecessary once those minerals are restored. Symptoms disappear when the cause is addressed.

Pat put it directly: “The symptoms are the bugs, are the weeds, are the fungal and bacterial infections. I don’t look at those as a problem. What is the underlying problem that caused that to even be a possibility.”

The Dangerous Assumption Behind “Healthy”

One of the most expensive assumptions in business is believing that effort guarantees outcome.

Pat learned the opposite early. He describes working relentlessly as a young athlete while his body could not deliver the performance his effort should have produced. His answer was not to accept the gap. He kept researching what might be interfering with the result.

Founders face the same trap.

You can be disciplined and still be solving the wrong problem.

You can eat what looks healthy, follow the accepted playbook, train consistently, and still feel off. You can also run a company with good people, strong revenue, and respected customers while a hidden weakness quietly drains performance.

Pat says, “Humans tend to like shortcuts. Shortcuts can get us into trouble.”

The point is not that every shortcut is bad. The point is that convenience can hide consequence.

Dan Gable once noted that humans prefer shortcuts. In agriculture the shortcut has been synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides for five or six decades. Plants grow. Yields appear. Nutrient density and resilience decline. The same pattern shows up in people who eat the resulting food and then chase energy with more caffeine, more stimulants, or more time at the desk.

Document 264, entered into Senate records in 1936, already warned that food no longer supplied the minerals required for proper function. Nearly a century later the gap is wider. Pat’s response is practical: remineralize the soil, restore microbial diversity, and let plants pull bioavailable nutrients again.

The One Question That Changes The Frame

So what is the question?

What is the underlying cause?

Not, what can I take so I can get through another day?

Not, how do I squeeze more productivity from a tired body?

Ask what is creating the condition in the first place.

Founders are rewarded for treating symptoms quickly. A customer complains, you solve it. A key employee leaves, you recruit. Cash gets tight, you push sales.

But the Deep Wealth question is different.

Why did the system make that symptom possible?

That is how you find skeletons.

A recurring complaint may be a product problem, or it may reveal weak onboarding. A hiring miss may be a recruiting problem, or it may reveal unclear culture. Founder exhaustion may be a scheduling issue, or it may point to something deeper that deserves investigation.

The symptom is visible.

The real leverage is often underneath it.

What Founders Can Apply Right Now

Start with the symptom you have normalized.

Maybe it is low afternoon energy. Maybe focus disappears after back to back meetings. Maybe you are sleeping but not recovering. Maybe you tell yourself you are “just getting older.”

Do not diagnose yourself from a podcast. Do not jump from one health trend to another.

Instead, treat the symptom as data.

Track when it appears. Notice what changes before it. Look at food, sleep, travel, stress, workload, environment, and recovery. Bring that information to qualified professionals who can help you investigate responsibly.

That is a stronger position than guessing.

It is also how strong founders operate inside the business. They do not confuse the alarm with the fire.

The Deeper Business Consequence

Here is the part most founders miss.

Your company can become more valuable while you become less capable of enjoying it.

That is a terrible trade.

A future buyer looks for risk. Founder dependency is risk. Weak systems are risk. Leadership instability is risk.

If the company depends heavily on you and your health is becoming less predictable, the business has two linked vulnerabilities instead of one.

That is why Deep Wealth Mastery Health treats health as a strategic operating system, not a lifestyle accessory.

Your energy affects your patience. Your patience affects your leadership. Your leadership affects decisions. Decisions affect people, customers, cash flow, and enterprise value.

Health is your first wealth because capacity comes before leverage.

Why This Conversation Matters Now

Pat’s path is unusual, but the pattern is familiar.

He went from studying fighters and performance to studying soil, food quality, and the conditions that support vitality. Whether you agree with every conclusion he draws or not, the founder lesson is powerful.

Stop accepting symptoms simply because they are common.

Stop confusing common with normal.

Stop assuming more discipline is always the answer.

The best founders do not blindly accept the inherited playbook. They test assumptions. They ask better questions. They look for the cause before the consequence becomes expensive.

Sometimes the most valuable question is not “What should I do next?”

It is “What is this symptom trying to tell me?”

Listen Before The Symptom Gets More Expensive

This conversation with Pat Miletich is not about becoming a farmer.

It is about looking beneath the surface.

It is about the connection between inputs and outputs, the danger of shortcuts, the cost of ignored signals, and the founder discipline of asking what is really causing the problem.

The costly blind spot is rarely the thing you can already see. It is the condition underneath it.

The earlier you find it, whether in your health, your leadership, or your business, the more options you keep.

If you want to build a company that is profitable now and ready later, your first job is not simply to push harder.

It is to protect the founder capacity making every other decision possible.

The full conversation covers the exact mechanisms, the historical pattern, the practical first steps, and the results people report once the soil and the food change. Listen to the episode, then decide whether the next input you allow into your system is still the one that has been quietly draining you.
