Katie's journey didn't start with success handed to her on a silver platter. As a child, she felt unseen and undervalued, especially after her mom gave birth to twins. Katie recalled, “From a really young age, I was trying to figure out how can I be seen?” She realized that by helping and serving others, she could get noticed. Cooking meals for her family was her way of shining.
Katie's love for creating solutions led her to industrial design in college. But it wasn’t an easy path. “I started to notice a part of me that was just not feeling seen and heard in traditional college majors,” she said. Instead, she took shop classes, learning skills like welding. This led to her breakthrough in industrial design—a field where she felt at home and valued for her unique skills.
Katie Richardson is not your typical entrepreneur. As a child, she was always curious about how things worked and how they fit together. This curiosity led her to industrial design, where she thrived and even earned a scholarship from General Motors. Katie loved solving problems and creating innovative solutions.
But being a successful entrepreneur wasn’t always in her plans. “Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a mother,” Katie shares. When she got married and began having children, she thought her creative pursuits would be limited to projects in the garage with her kids. Yet, she felt a strong desire to solve bigger problems beyond her home.
Katie’s entrepreneurial journey took off unexpectedly. One day, while shopping at a boutique with her children, the store owner noticed the baby products Katie had made herself. The owner was impressed and wanted to place an order. Despite her initial hesitation, Katie took the leap.
What started as a small endeavor blossomed into a multi-million dollar international company, with her products in 2,000 U.S. stores and 26 countries. “We have global and domestic patents and trademarks. Our products have been featured on The Ellen Show, The Rachel Ray Show, The Today Show, and the cover of Entrepreneur Magazine,” Katie recalls.
Despite her success, Katie faced an existential crisis. Investors pulled out, and her business was on the brink of collapse. She felt abandoned by God, who she believed had guided her journey. Katie kneeled down and asked, “Why is this happening?” The answer she received changed her life. “Katie, you thought this was about the business, but it’s about you. This business is a vehicle for you to become the leader you’re capable of being.”
From that moment, Katie shifted her mindset. She no longer needed the business to prove her worth. She realized, “The value is in me, not the company.” This empowered her to face her investors with confidence, eventually leading to a successful resolution.
Success, however, came with its challenges. Katie faced cash flow issues, investor problems, and the struggles of balancing family life. At one point, she almost lost her company. But it was during these trying times that Katie found her true calling.
“I knelt on my knees and prayed,” Katie recounts. “That was the moment I realized that the value was in me, not the company. The business was just a vehicle for me to become the leader I was meant to be.”
This realization transformed Katie’s mindset. She shifted from being desperate for her business to validate her worth, to seeing it as a powerful tool for serving others. This new perspective brought astonishing results, and Katie’s company thrived even more.
With this new operating system in place, Katie began helping other entrepreneurs find their own paths to success. She transitioned from her own business to a career in coaching, guiding others to operate from a place of integrity, fun, and alignment with their true purpose.
Coaching Entrepreneurs
Katie’s coaching method, called the Vital Framework, includes vision, inspiration, team, alignment, and leadership systems. By installing this new operating system in her clients’ lives, Katie helps them achieve remarkable results in a short period.
Take, for example, one of her clients, a hard money lender working 120 hours a week. By shifting his operating system, he reduced his work hours to 60 a week, resolved partnership conflicts, and even had time to enjoy his family. Another client, a world-renowned surgeon, transformed a toxic team environment by aligning himself with his purpose. He saw toxic team members voluntarily leave, and his team’s performance skyrocketed.
The Secret Sauce
So, what makes Katie’s system so effective? It’s all about mindset and removing the emergency brake holding you back. “When you’re in a place of flow, you attract success effortlessly,” Katie says. It’s about aligning your internal systems with your external goals, creating a life filled with fun, freedom, and fulfillment.
Katie now helps other entrepreneurs transform their lives. She believes in the power of fun and integrity. “A lot of us have things that are so natural to us,” she said. “When you really own your gifts and talents, not as a way to posture, but to share that with the world, that’s where magic happens.”
Katie’s journey is a living testament to the power of changing your mindset and embracing your true self. “I would tell my six-year-old self to own and honor your gifts and talents and share them with the world,” Katie reflects.
